Small Group Leadership Training
Center Point is in the process of forming small groups and training hosts for these groups. We believe that people connect best through small groups and this process is demonstrated repeatedly in the Scripture.

Center Point is seeking individuals willing to act as small group hosts. Listed below are some frequently asked questions (FAQ) about being a small group host and about small groups in general. For more information, contact Discipleship Pastor Jonah Adkins.

FAQ- Center Point Small Groups

Who can participate?

Everyone! Small groups can be beneficial to anyone – from new Christians to more mature Christians.

Who should Host or Lead?

...Those who prayerfully consider being involved in this ministry. It doesn’t take a Super-Christian or the greatest of Biblical Scholars to lead a small group. Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called! Being a Host/Leader is a wonderful opportunity for you to help build relationships among your group’s membership and most importantly, to help others build a greater relationship with Jesus.

What is the difference between a Host and a Leader?

Simply stated, a Host is a person who has never specifically been in a leadership role, however you may have those traits that are needed to become a strong leader and they can be refined through a pathway of training. We are looking for those who have leadership potential as well as those who may already be leaders. Small group leaders are those who have been equipped with the proper tools to successfully lead a small group. Remember, we aren’t looking for super-stars; we are looking for people who are willing and obedient.

What exactly are small groups?

....Small groups of people who come together to intentionally deepen their focus on Discipleship, Fellowship, Evangelism, Ministry and Worship. This is accomplished through Biblical study (Curriculum), building trustful relationships among group members, sharing experiences with other members, building a network of strength and support, inviting others into groups, etc. Small groups exist to allow people to be a closer follower of Jesus Christ.

Where would we meet?

This will be up to the Host/Leader. Usually, this takes place in this person’s home or it could be a central location such as a classroom in the Church basement. Somewhere where people can feel comfortable and a place that is warm and inviting.

What would go on during a meeting of my small group?

Again, the primary purpose of the meetings is for Biblical Study. However, drinks and food may be served as you study. Prayer, testimonials, etc. are also vital parts of the small group meetings and will have their place. The structure of the meetings will be determined by the dynamics of the group, and should stay relatively the same however they must always be directed by the Holy Spirit.

 What will we study?

There are literally hundreds of curriculums available for the purpose of small group study. The host/leader of the group may choose a curriculum or one can be provided by the Discipleship Pastor if needed. From studying the different names of God to Godly financial management, there are a variety of options to choose from. Most importantly, ask for God’s leadership if choosing a curriculum that is right for you and your small group.

Where are small groups found in the Bible?

There are several instances of small groups found in the scripture: Acts 12:12, Acts 20:20, Romans 16:4-5, 1 Corinthians 16:19. Additionally, if you take into consideration the many scriptures that teach us to minister to one another, you have another reason for small groups. Perhaps the greatest example of small groups would be that of Jesus and His 12, who spent much time together so that they may resemble him to a greater extent.

I hope that this handout has answered the majority of any questions you may have had. If not, please contact me if you need to ask anything further. I hope that each one of you finds a place within the small group community where you can grow closer to the Lord.

** Eccl 11:4 “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.” Waiting for the “perfect time” will often result in it never being accomplished. **
